When you attempt to connect to a server from the Contact Window, the following login panel will appear.Contacts.htmlshapeimage_1_link_0

Registered User

To login as a Guest, see the Guest User documentation.

If this is the first time you are running the software, you will need to enter the server address that you will be logging in to.  If this is not the case and your server settings are already configured, you only need to enter a valid user name and password and press the “Log In” button.  You can also change servers by using the Server popup menu.

Entering a New Server

To enter a new server, click on the Server popup control and choose “Enter New Server...” from the menu.  If this is your first time using the software, the menu will already default to “Enter New Server...”.  In either case, a text entry field appears below the Server popup control.  This allows you to type in the address of the server you want to connect to:

Once you have correctly entered the server address and a valid user name/password, you can press the “Log In” button.  If you successfully login to a valid server, this new server will automatically be added to your server list.

Login Automatically

If you turn on this checkbox, the software will remember your user name and password and login automatically every time you launch the software.  This can be convenient when you are always logging into the same server and same account.  If the login fails for any reason, the software will automatically disable this feature and inform you why this occurred.   To manually disable automatic login, choose “Cancel Automatic Login” from the Settings menu.  This item will be grayed out if the feature is not currently enabled.

Edit Server List

If you choose “Edit Server List...” in the Server menu, a list will appear with all previously referenced servers.  You can select any server with the mouse and use the delete key to remove it from the list.  Press OK when you are done removing servers from this list:

If this dialog remains for more than a few seconds, you should press cancel and recheck the server address that you are attempting to connect to.  If you are sure this address is correct, it could be that the server is not running at this time.

If you accidentally enter the wrong user name or password and attempt a login, you will get an error dialog that indicates why your login failed.

Speed Testing

When you are running Unity on a network where you have not used it before, it is important to know what sort of performance you should expect.  This requires running a speed test, which is explained in more detail here.

Connection Issues

If the server you are trying to connect to is online, login typically occurs immediately.  If the server is down or your server address is incorrect, you will see the following dialog that shows what the software is trying to do.
